I've enjoyed ARA's campgrounds for the past two years, and I couldn't be more pleased. Always a pleasant experience with tons to do. Anyone looking to camp all season should really check it out, amazing rates and even better environment. It's a community everytime I'm out there, campers helping campers, neighborly attitudes and hospitality. I don't know what else I could ask for!
Crooks - don't do it!!!!! I have been waiting for a refund for over 3 months and the "owner" Ray Shepherd has given me one excuse after the other. It has been almost 4 months since I was entitled to a refund of $2295.00 and the owner has now stopped responding to any correspondence. I now have the irritating chore of filing complaints with the New York State Attorney's office.
When we bought our membership a couple years ago, it was explained to us the process that needed to happen in order for things to really get started. As we checked in during this last visit, I see how its all coming together now. New kayaks, new bocce court, new horse shoe pits, all the materials are there to put a new roof on, fresh coats of paint on the lodge and cabins. I think the resort is really coming together and couldn't be happier that we made the decision to join. I also have gone on a couple hot weeks to stay in the condos once for $99 and once for $199 for the whole week, absolutely incredible!!
I made the unfortunate decision to purchase a Bronze Membership from these fraudsters on April 16, 2016. On April 17, 2016, pursuant to the stipulation on the agreement that I could cancel in writing any time between April 16-April 20, I sent a letter to Adventure Resorts indicating my wish to cancel the agreement. I received a phone call from the salesperson trying to convince me that I wanted to keep it, and I strongly reiterated that I did not wish to keep the membership. As of June 25, 2016 I still have not received a refund of the monies paid for the Bronze Membership, and will be pursuing legal action.
9/29/15 Update: a year and a half now - the CT/ MA/ NY Attorney Generals offices won't do anything about this business even though they admit they have had many complaints filed. So what is their purpose then? Small Claims court - here I come. I will NOT let this guy get away with my money.
I begged for the company to just do the right thing - and still they ignore me. Do NOT do business with this company unless you have money to throw away.
My husband and I became members a year ago, February. At the time of our tour, we had to look beyond the mountains of snow and envision what the place would look like underneath. We bought, or were sold, the gold membership at a reduced price available that day only, you know the drill. Fast forward, while understanding that the area had been decimated by a tornado and the owner bought as is, I thought that at least some minor improvements would have been made, such as cleaning the beach area up for use as an alternative to the pool, structures and the like given a coat of paint, wifi available at each site, small things that wouldn't break the bank with an obvious start up. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. Today, we were roped into another sales pitch under the guise of a member meeting that sounded mandatory wherein new security measures and improvements were to be discussed. Instead we were offered the chance to spend more money to upgrade to platinum or executive. Needless to say, I was a tad pissed off. The presentation was handled by a firm hired by DRA, which I'm sure wasn't cheap, and little by little it appeared that we are not entitled to everything we thought we bought and paid for. We were originally told that former seasonal sites would be gone, now they're grandfathered in. I told the rep that since we were original buyers in this new venture, we should be given the upgrade free of charge since without our capital, this resort would have no where to go. With this upgrade, we should be able to utilize future resorts planned for the New England area. At this point, I would love to opt out if I could, but if we purchased the platinum for another 5k, we could. I am not a happy camper.
